Pregis Sponsors Cal Poly’s Annual Egg Drop Competition

As part of Pregis’ ongoing commitment to furthering packaging education, Pregis was a proud sponsor of Cal Poly State University’s annual egg drop competition that took place at the San Luis Obispo Farmer’s Market on May 4th, 2017.

More than 66 students participated in the event. Prizes were awarded to the top 3 teams, in both the Assembled Kits division and Open division, which assembled a successful egg drop container.   In the assembled kits group, Pregis supplied each student with a kit containing including Easypack paper cushion, Profile tube, foil bubble sheet and a variety of household items to construct a durable shipping container. The challenge was to prevent an uncooked (Grade-AA Large) chicken egg from breaking when dropped from a height of 30 feet.

Assembled kits competition:  Emily Manos, Jessica Estrack, and Joseph Victoria

Open design competition:  Mason Koscinski Madison Pace and Sergio Cois

The egg drop competition is part of the Poly Pack Symposium, a day-long event, which gathers packaging professionals to network and present on new topics and techniques to students and industry members.

This year’s event theme focused on Packaging the Future. Joey Phister, PDP Director and Western Regional Sales Manager, and Ryan Germann, E-commerce Segment Manager, spoke on the effects of social media and packaging on ecommerce.
