There are three methods by which heat is transferred from one object to another.
1. Conductive heat transfer - direct contact.
Heat moves through objects depending what they are made of. Metals are very conductive whereas insulations materials have very low conductivity..
2. Convective heat transfer - steam or moisture.
If you put your hand above a boiling pot, you will feel heat in the form of steam. This is convective heat transfer.
3. Radiant heat transfer.
Stand outside on a sunny day and feel the sun's rays on your face. You are feeling radiant heat transfer. All objects above absolute zero, which is - 459.7 degrees Fahrenheit, give out infrared rays in a straight line in all directions.
