Sterilisation Types


Sterilisation by gas and steam requires a heat resistant plastic packaging combined with permeable materials such as paper or Tyvek®. Sterilisation by irradiation can be applied to completely hermetically sealed packagings. Polypropylene (PP) and PVC are inapplicable to the greatest possible extend (except for special types). Plasma sterilisation is only appropriate for packaging materials, which do not absorb or contain water, such as paper or polyamide (PA). In case of sterilisation of medical liquids (infusions) the articles are exposed to heat in autoclaves.
